I consider myself to be an extremely fortunate person since I am lucky enough to be a tour guide, a job that as a ten-year-old I considered to be a wonderful idea, but not something that would ever amount to anything. Over three decades later, however, the pipe dream became a reality, and I launched my own business, Unique Devon Tours, in 2013.
Since then, the company has flourished, proving to be successful beyond my wildest dreams, and having got into the final of the Wanderlust World Guide of the Year Awards twice (the only guide in the World to achieve that), the second time in 2018 winning the ‘Top UK Guide’ title, I really feel that I’ve found my perfect job.
After a few years of working as a tour guide, I’ve amassed a considerable amount of stories to tell, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to share them with you in my ‘Tales of a Devon Tour Guide’ series. I really didn’t anticipate tour guiding to be as much fun as it is, although much of the humour of my adventures comes from the moments where something has gone wrong, or where the unexpected has happened!
As part of the very positive We LOVE England team, once again I feel incredibly lucky. Aside from the articles that I’m going to share with you, I’ll gladly share my images with you too. During my time as a tour guide, my love for photography has flourished – unsurprising given the fact that I’m out and about in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world when with guests, with endless opportunities to take photos in the southwest of England. Many of my images are on the We LOVE England website, and they can be seen on my Unique Devon Tours social media channels and website too. Those of you that purchased a We LOVE England Calendar for 2021 are hopefully enjoying my images, since they were the ones used in the calendar!
